Fair Expectations

From Avoiding Extreme Parenting

ANCHOR POINTS for FAIR EXPECTATIONS of OUR CHILDREN

  1. Your love and approval should never be based on the child’s performance.
  1. Challenge your child to do their best – but remember it doesn’t mean perfection.
  1. Be generous with encouragement as opposed to your criticism. One lifts and the other lowers.
  1. Teach the importance of your child completing what they are required or had committed themselves to do.
  1. Allow room for failure and recovery. Children can learn from mistakes.
  1. Beware of parental peer pressure – Don’t parent to make you look good – parent for their good.
